Dhanteras also known as Dhanatrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi, is the first day that marks the festival of Diwali in India and festival of Tihar in Nepal.
Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the Vikram Samvat Hindu Calendar month of Kartik.
Dhanvantari, who is also worshipped on the occasion of Dhanteras, is the god of Ayurveda who imparted the wisdom of Ayurveda for the betterment of mankind and to help rid it of the suffering of diseases.
Dhanteras marks the beginning of the five day festivities of Diwali, the festival is celebrated as "Lakshmi Puja" is performed in the evening when tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadow of evil spirits.
On dhanteras, peoples clean their home, wear clean clothes, lighting their houses.
On this their is a people used to bring something new things at home, it is very important in very house in India.
